Battlefield

The 7×7 grid where the game is played.

The Battlefield is the 7 x 7 grid where all movement takes place. Your Navia starts on the center of your back row, with your Gulled in predetermined locations. Your Maseitai start in your Keep, waiting to be Summoned onto the battlefield over the course of the game. A few squares have special properties — see Summon Square and Gyullas Reduction Square.

Black Gulled

Basic pawns — move one square forward, worth 1 Gyullas on capture.

Black Gulled are the basic pawns of each Force. They move exactly one square forward — never sideways, diagonally, or backward, and earn you 1 Gyullas every time they move. Whoever Captures a Black Gulled earns 1 Gyullas. Like all Gulled, a Black Gulled can perform a Line Over — moving off the far edge of the Battlefield for a bonus. Unlike Maseitai, Gulled cannot be Dratped.

Capture

Taking an opponent's piece by moving onto its square.

You Capture an opponent's piece by moving one of your pieces onto its square, similar to chess. The captured piece goes to its owner's Graveyard and you earn Gyullas equal to its Dratp Cost if it is a Maseitai, or one or three Gyullas for a Black or Red Gulled, respectively. Capturing the opposing Navia wins the game.

Check

A warning that your Navia is threatened — but not a restriction on your moves.

Check means your Navia is under direct threat of Capture next turn. Unlike chess, Check is only a warning: you're free to make any legal move, even one that leaves your Navia in check or puts it into Check.

Compass

The movement diagram on each piece showing where it can go.

Every piece has a Compass — a diagram showing which squares it can move to from its current position. Most Maseitai have two compasses: a normal compass used before they're Dratped, and a separate Dratped compass used after, which in general gives them more powerful movement. Other Maseitai are sent to the Graveyard when they are Dratped and so only have a normal compass. Gulled have only a normal compass. Dratping a Navia (see Navia Dratp) wins the game, so they only have a normal compass as well. Pieces can slide, jump, or bounce depending on their compass markings. Note that, in general, Maseitai can "jump" to any yellow square indicated by their Compass, unless an arrow indicates "sliding" movement.

Dratp

Spend Gyullas to flip a Maseitai to its promoted form or trigger a special effect.

On your turn, after moving a piece, or instead of moving a piece, you can pay its Dratp Cost in Gyullas to Dratp it. Some pieces flip to a different (usually stronger) Compass; others trigger a Dratp Effect instead. Some do both. In general, once a Maseitai is Dratped, it cannot return to its pre-Dratped state. A Navia Dratp wins the game immediately.

Dratp Cost

The Gyullas price you pay to Dratp a specific piece.

Each Maseitai has a Dratp Cost, shown in its piece details, on its card, and on the piece itself. To Dratp the piece, you pay that many Gyullas from your Gyullas Vault. More powerful pieces generally cost more, and a piece's Dratp Cost also determines how many Gyullas a player earns when they Capture it.

Dratp Effect

A special ability that fires when you Dratp a piece.

A Dratp Effect is any effect other than changed movement that happens as a result of a piece Dratping. Effects vary widely: some are one-offs, some are persistent effects, and some are Invoke abilities, which allow the Maseitai's player to pay a Gyullas cost once per turn to trigger an effect. Read each Maseitai's piece details or card to see what its Dratp Effect does.

Force

The full set of pieces you command: your Navia, Maseitai, and Gulled.

Your Force is the complete collection of pieces under your command: one Navia, seven Maseitai, and a set of Gulled, seven Black and two Red. You choose seven Maseitai and a Navia before the game begins. Maseitai begin the game in your Keep and must be Summoned to bring them into play.

Frozen

A status preventing a piece from moving. Inflicted by certain Dratp Effects.

A Frozen piece cannot move on its owner's turn and negates all Dratp Effects associated with the Maseitai — the Kanaba Maseitai is the only piece with this ability. A frozen piece still blocks squares and can still be Captured normally. Note that some complex interactions can take place when a series of two or more Kanabas Freeze one another.

Graveyard

Where captured and sacrificed pieces go. Permanent — no resurrection.

Each player has a Graveyard next to the Battlefield where pieces that are Captured or "sent to the Graveyard" by a Dratp Effect are placed.

Gulled

Your pawns. Limited movement but your primary way of earning {Gyullas}.

Gulled are the "pawns" of your Force, and your main way of earning Gyullas. Black Gulled earn you one Gyullas each time they move, and Red Gulled earn you three Gyullas. Likewise, they award this same amount to an opponent if Captured. If you perform a Line Over by moving a Gulled past your opponent's back row (in other words, off the battlefield), it goes to your Graveyard and you choose a bonus: gain 10 Gyullas, or return a Maseitai from your Graveyard to an open Summon Square. Gulled cannot be Dratped.

Gyullas

The crystal resource you spend to summon and Dratp pieces.

Gyullas are the crystals that allow you to Dratp Maseitai and your Navia, or use Invoke abilities. Players begin the game with 60 Gyullas in their Gyullas Vault, and an empty Gyullas Pool. When Gyullas are earned, they are moved from the Vault into the Pool, and when they are spent, they are moved from the Pool back into the Vault. You are limited to a max of 60 Gyullas.

Gyullas Pool

Where new Gyullas arrive each turn before moving to your vault.

The Gyullas Pool is where earned Gyullas are stored. They move there from the Gyullas Vault when you move a Gulled, Capture a piece, or when a Dratp Effect indicates it.

Gyullas Reduction Square

Special battlefield squares that affect Gyullas costs when occupied.

Gyullas Reduction Squares are the five specially-marked squares on the middle row of the Battlefield, collectively known as the Gyullas Reduction Zone. A Maseitai on one of these spaces can be Dratped for half its normal cost (rounded up), and Invoke abilities can be used for half their normal cost (rounded up). Note that these squares do not affect the cost of a Navia Dratp.

Gyullas Reduction Zone

The strip of five Gyullas Reduction Squares running across the middle row of the battlefield.

The Gyullas Reduction Zone is the strip of five Gyullas Reduction Squares running across the middle row of the Battlefield (b4 through f4). Maseitai standing anywhere in the Zone pay half the normal cost to Dratp and half the normal cost to use Invoke abilities (rounded up).

Gyullas Vault

Your spendable Gyullas. Draw from here to summon and Dratp.

The Gyullas Vault is where your unearned Gyullas are kept. Each player starts the game with 60 Gyullas in their Gyullas Vault. When you spend Gyullas from your Gyullas Pool they move back here.

Invoke

A passive or triggered ability on certain pieces that activates automatically.

Some Maseitai gain Invoke abilities after Dratping. On your turn, you may spend the indicated amount of Gyullas to trigger the indicated effect after, or instead of, moving that Maseitai.

Keep

Off-battlefield holding area for pieces waiting to be summoned.

The Keep is the off-Battlefield area where your Maseitai start the game. On your turn, you can Summon a Maseitai by taking it from your Keep and placing it on any open Summon Square. This takes a full turn, and so cannot be done after moving a piece or taking any other action. Note that there is no other "cost" of any kind for Summoning a Maseitai. Also note that the Keep is not part of the battlefield and is not "adjacent" in any way to the Battlefield spaces in front of it.

Line Over

Winning by marching one of your Gulled off the far edge of the battlefield.

If you move one of your Gulled over the far edge of the Battlefield (i.e. from your opponent's back row to "off the battlefield"), the Gulled is sent to your Graveyard and you gain one of two bonuses: gain 10 Gyullas or return a Maseitai from your Graveyard to an open Summon Square.

Maseitai

The seven powerful pieces that make up the bulk of your Force.

Maseitai are the named pieces that make up the core of your Force. Each Maseitai has a Compass showing how it moves, and a Dratp ability. Maseitai can be DratpedGyullas equal to its Dratp Cost are spent to unleash a more powerful promoted form or a special Dratp Effect. When a Maseitai is captured, the player who captured it earns Gyullas equal to its Dratp Cost.

Navia

Your "king" piece. Lose your Navia and you lose the game.

The Navia is your "king" piece — the heart of your Force. If you Capture your opponent's Navia, you win the game. You can also win by performing a Navia Dratp or by moving your Navia over your opponent's back line when your Keep is empty (Navia Goal). Navia are immune to all Dratp Effects unless otherwise specified, and their Dratp Cost is unaffected by Gyullas Reduction Squares. Your Navia starts on the center square of your back row.

Navia Dratp

Dratping your Navia for an instant win under specific conditions.

If you Dratp your Navia (60 Gyullas for all Navia), you win the game.

See also: Navia Dratp Battlefield

Navia Goal

A win condition: marching your own Navia off your opponent's back line once your Keep is empty.

Navia Goal is a distinct way to win the game, different from a Navia Dratp. If your Keep is completely empty — meaning every Maseitai you started with is either on the Battlefield or in the Graveyard — you can win by moving your Navia past your opponent's back row (i.e. "off the Battlefield").

Red Gulled

Stronger pawns — move forward or diagonally forward, worth 3 Gyullas on capture.

Red Gulled are more powerful than Black Gulled. They move exactly one square forward or diagonally forward, and earn you 3 Gyullas every time they move. Whoever Captures a Red Gulled earns 3 Gyullas. Like Black Gulled, a Red Gulled can perform a Line Over — moving off the far edge of the Battlefield for a bonus. Unlike Maseitai, Gulled cannot be Dratped.

Sacrifice

A Dratp Effect that removes the Dratping piece for a powerful payoff.

Sacrifice is a kind of Dratp Effect where the Dratping piece itself is sent to the Graveyard as part of resolving the effect. Note that this does not count as a Capture and does not earn the opponent any Gyullas.

Summon

Spend Gyullas to bring a piece from your Keep onto the battlefield.

Summoning is how you bring a Maseitai from your Keep onto the Battlefield. You simply place the piece on one of your available Summon Squares. Summoning takes your entire turn — you cannot move another piece, Dratp, or Invoke on the same turn you Summon.

Summon Square

Squares adjacent to your Navia where you can summon pieces from your Keep.

Summon Squares are the eight specially-marked squares in your first two rows where newly Summoned Maseitai can be placed. A Maseitai can be moved from the Keep to any of your open Summon Squares. You can only Summon to the Summon Squares on your side of the Battlefield.
